The art of discrediting without facts: the case of invisible entities

It is clear to me that some people are unable or unwilling to accept facts, even if they dance around naked in front of them. When confronted by solid scientific evidence that goes against one’s beliefs, people tend to experience a type of cognitive dissonance that leaves them paralyzed and blind to facts. So instead of of embracing the possibility that things might exist outside our own limited knowledge and understanding of the world, that person resorts to personal insults and fake claims.

It also happens that when certain truths are revealed, concerned troll try to attack and discredit evidence, however they can never discredit the evidence itself, just attack the person or persons involved.

The concerned troll

While I will talk about a specific indivual, the approach of trolling and trying to discredit somebody is basically the same every time somebody either suffers from cognitive dissonance, or simply doesn’t want the truth to come out to light.

There I was having a friendly conversation on Twitter about invisible entities, more commonly known as ghosts, spirits, demons, angels, etc. When this person jumped in and started attacking a few of us for no reason at all (none of us have ever interacted with this person before).

I wasted some valuable time with this individual that simply does not want to accept the fact that there might exist multiple realities besides our visible, four-dimensional-matter world.

What’s interesting is that there seem to be certain patterns that are easy to spot. For instance, when you have made over 31 000 Tweets but managed to only gain 259 followers, it is obvious that nobody values your opinion. Let’s compare profiles.

I provided this individual with a link to an article I previously made about Marina Abramovic where I spoke of such entities.

Here is a breakdown of the simple discrediting steps.

Step 1- Insult somebody and make false assumptions

The first step, of course, is to insult me and call my research fake without reading any of it or any of the attached sources. Notice also along these attacks are false assumptions, that he keeps spewing without any basis for them. The first one of them being that I have no knowledge of science, the scientific community or how peer-reviewed system works. This is actually not true, I have studied a range of sciences extensively over the years, and I actually used some of those sciences in previous employments. But Mr Concerned Troll here doesn’t know that. He just assumes that I am uneducated simply because he is.

The second assumption is that I am a ‘flat earther‘, i.e. I believe the Earth is flat. I have never in my life made such claim and in fact, I do not believe the Earth to be flat. Funnily enough, I have previously posted (look at the dates) memes about Flat Earth.

Keep noticing that he cannot make one single argument about the research papers I provided him.

Step 2: Discredit the publishing company

Once more, without basis, he assumed that I have not come across the many issues facing open source platforms. This particular open source platform where the paper was published goes by the name of Science Publishing Group.

While it is true that concerns can be expressed about many such open sources, none of the articles have to do with Mr Ruggero Maria Santilli or his findings about Invisible Terrestrial Entities (ETI).

His first link is an article in The Guardian, which actually talks about “predatory (tactics in) open-access publishers”. But the article does not mention Science Publishing Group at all, not Mr Santilli.

The same article provides divided opinions on the issue from different sources, and states that “Not every journal published by a predatory publisher is itself predatory, however.”

The second article points to a private opinion piece written on 2012 by Martin R. In this piece, Marting simply discards the company that asked him to join him as an editor. It appears that back in 2012, this particular publishing company did not have an ‘editor-in-chief’ for the Social Sciences Department and this was the only argument for claiming it to be fake.

It is also fair to admit that when this company started, they appeared to have got hold of a large mailing list of worldwide scientists, and engaged in some massive spam emailing as form of recruitment. It appears that a lot has change since the youthful beginnings of this particular company. Because when I looked at 6 different random people from this link, they all seem to be real, verifiable individuals.

The third article Mr Concerned Troll points out to yet another personal opinion written on Emerald City Journal, which, in itself, is nothing more than online newsletter that publishes all sorts of contents, and are, by no means, any professionals in the scientific community.

This article points out a completely different paper published by that company, Not only the article does not prove or disprove the other paper, but simply claims that the company is based in Pakistan without giving evidence, and that is an obvious scam because when he called, a lady answered him with a Chinese accent. I guess only people with spotless American accents should be allowed to answer the phone.

The company does in fact appear in Google Maps. But even if it was based in Pakistan, I would still see no problem given that all it does is provide free, open source research in a variety of fields.

In the last article he provided, the claim is made that ALL the articles published there are junk based on a few cases of plagiarism.

While it is true that many issues (fake papers, plagiarism, etc) face open source platforms, the same issues does indeed happened in other, more established, more ‘respectable’ peer-reviewed journals. For instance, one of the top 10 Academic Publishers, Springer, had to retract more than 60 articles from 10 different journals. This isn’t an isolated incident either, but happens in a lot of scientific journals. And it has to do with unscrupulous practices of few individuals, and with an outdated system that needs a reform. It doesn’t have to do with the other thousands of individuals submitting real papers with real scientific data they have worked hard for to obtain. Some people actually prefer to share their results freely rather put it behind a pay-wall for the sake of humanity and the advancement of knowledge.

At this point, because the same issues do happen in every side, the fact that Mr Santilli decided to publish his paper in an open source platform so everybody could have access to it does not prove anything, nor does it discredit the paper, not Mr Santilli.

3-Discredit the man himself

Since the above point is very flaky (even he might have realized that), the next step is to provide an attack on Mr Santilli himself.

Ruggerio Santilli, in his website, does have a select list of his accomplishments throughout his career. It is obvious that whoever wrote or edited the website wasn’t all too familiar with locations. In fact, Mr Concern Troll says that this does not exist, despite photographic evidence.

And as it turns out, there is an Orléans in France, and there is in fact a University of Orleans.

What’s more, I found this civil lawsuit from 1992 that clearly states that said nomination was made by the Estonia Academy of Sciences, and the award was presented to Santilli at the University of Orleans, France, where the ceremony took place in 1982. Since it is a very serious issue to lie in court and/or related proceedings, I wonder why would Mr Santilli make up those claims, and why is it that he hasn’t been sued yet.

The next he tries to discredit, is the ‘European Society of Computational Methods in Science and Engineering‘. Since he obviously doesn’t know how to locate things, this too, is also fake.

According to Mr Concerned Troll, the fact that a European Society hosts an International conference is somehow proof enough that Mr Santilli’s credentials are fake and the man needs to be discredited.

First of all, there is in fact a European Society of Computational Methods in Science and Engineering. This is the old website. Here and here are details of the international conferences they hold.

But as it happens, in Mr Santilli’s website there is plenty of photographic evidence to suggest the event took place. Including photographic evidence of the award itself.

Quoting from Santilli’s website itself:

Should one click on the above mentioned website, and find the archives for 2011, it does indeed show that Mr Santilli was there. Not only this, the very same website specifies that events are organized by a company that goes by the name of REGALSCOPE LIMITED.

Regaloscope limited is simply a company that organizes events in Greece. Given that the event was in Greece, and the ceremony was also in Greece, what exactly is the issue about a Greek company organizing it?

At this point, Mr Concerned Troll is left with nothing more than a passive-aggressive Tweet in his time-line that only shows that he has not bothered to verify a single claim. And of course, more attacks.

He was not able to disprove Santilli’s paper at any point, not the evidence provided by the FBI itself in 1947 that shows, in fact, that such invisible and/or inter-dimensional entities do exist.

It is obvious that Mr Concerned Troll is suffering from major Cognitive Dissonance at this point. Or perhaps is getting paid to shill on information the ‘Establishment’ doesn’t want to become public. His claim that the awards don’t exist are also bogus.

Ruggerio Maria Santilli -the man behind the awards

Besides his many contributions to the scientific community (including discoveries, inventions and patents), and his many awards; it is interesting to point out that Mr Santilli has worked for NASA and D.O.E. (Department of Energy), with the specif contract numbers: ER-78-S-02-47420.A000, AS02-78ER04742, DE-ACO2-80ER10651, DE-ACO2-80ER-10651.A001, and DE-ACO2-80ER10651.A002).

The outcomes of said contracts can be summarized with this particular publication:

Santilli has been proposed for a Nobel Prize in no less than 17 occasions. 13 times he was nominated for a Nobel Prize in Physics and 4 times for a Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

You can see a full list of Santilli’s awards here. I wonder if they are all lying. And why is it that no university or no other association has ever sued Mr Santilli about the so-called ‘fake claims’.

Santilli is also responsible for the companies MagneGas Corporation, and Thunder Energy Corporations. There are some 20 patents (that I was able to locate) from these two companies. Santilli has worked and/or is mentioned in  on most of them.

Below is a summary of Mr Santilli’s career, and most of the peer-reviewed papers and monographs he has published during his life time.

So, when a man that has received numerous awards througout his career, including a knighthoods (knights of Malta, Cross of St Agata); a man that has in fact worked for NASA and the Department of Energy; a man that has been nominated in no less than 17 different occasions for a Nobel Prize in various fields of science; when such a man decides that he has had enough of the ‘Politics in Academia,’ and publishes his work in an open source platform so everybody can access it, I pay attention. Given his impressive career, I would pay attention even if he wrote his findings on a piece of toilet paper.

I guess when you are a fraud, you get to meet all these people and receive all these fake awards:
