What are Twitter Archives And Why Should You Care?

Elemi Fuentes –01/03/2020

How often do you visit a website only to find all the content gone? How often do you recall seeing something online, only to go back and check and find that the information has been modified or is missing?

We live in a world full of information. But information that constantly changes, it is changed, and also deleted. It is hard to keep track or who said what and when. And even more so on social media, where things said get deleted, twisted, and hours, weeks, days or months later, told in a completely different way.

To satisfy the need for accurate record keeping, there is a handy little online tool known as Trump Twitter Archive.

The website tracks all the tweets from @RealDonaldTrump, including those that have been deleted. It tracks all of his activity from the 1137 days he has been in Office. This tool is very neat and handy if you are looking to build any kind of infographics.

What makes it different from Trump’s Priorities is that it doesn’t just track Trump’s twitter feed in real time. It tracks another 50 important and noteworthy accounts to follow, such as: General Flynn, Hillary Clinton, Mitch McConnell, and Sebastian Gorka, as well as organizations such as Citizens United or the White House.

Once you have performed your searches, by keywords, dates, topics, etc, you can export all your finding in a handy CSV file that can be used with most spreadsheet programs, such as Microsoft Excel or Google Spreadsheets. It also allows you to save data as JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), a very common data format, serving as replacement for XML in AJAX systems.

The next time you wonder if you are losing your mind because information has disappeared, check this source to see if the information has been erased. A really handy and helpful tool all-round, but most especially if you are building timelines.
